Soldier's Tour in Korea

Shadow's Fall Concert

I went to a great concert tonight. At first I wasn't sure if I was going to find the place. Jung had bought the tickets for me and I had to pick them up at the door. I met a Canadian who was looking for the concert too. He was a school teacher here. Well, I guess Canucks like to drink beer, because the first thing he said was "Let's go drink before the concert, so we can get drunk before the concert. That way we won't have to pay as mich for beer in the concert!"

We saw this odd looking toilet on the way there. It appears that you just squat over the hole there and do your business. On the plus side, you don't have to worry about somebody peeing on the toilet seat!

This funny sign of two drunk chickens was on the front of the restaurant we ate at while waiting for the concert to start. I guess the Canadian must have been lured in by the sign, becasue as soon as we sat down he was ordering a picture of beer. After dinner, hea headed back over to the club where the concert was at. The front looked like the building was only about the size of a small bathroom but there were alrady hundreds of people going insde. When I walked in the whole club was underground. I walked down a flight of stairs and it opened up into a big room. There were only about 100 people at the concert.

This was the opening band before Shadows Fall came on. They are called Vassline, and they were great. I actually liked them better than Shadows Fall. They played their heart out too. The lead singer could really sing. They are a very talented band. They sounded a bit like the band Disturbed.

I thought that I wouldn't be able to understand any of thier stuff, but about half was in english and the other half Korean. I just liked the way they sounded though.

After Vasslne left, Shadows Fall came on stage. By this time the drunk Canadian was going crazy. he kept pushing me so that I would go forward and we could get closer to the stage. Well Koreans aren't the same as Americans. They just move out of your way and give you dirty looks rather than try to fight you for their spot. We moved all the way to the front of the stage.

About half way throught the concert I really had to use the restrooom so I moved my way all the way out of the building. I thought I would never be able to get back, but again the Koreans just moved out of my way and I walked all the way back up to the front of the stage next to the crazy Canadian.

Shadow's Fall really put on a good concert. It was a great night. I got home right before they closed the post gates at midnight. 5 minutes later and I would have gone to jail for being late. It was pretty close. All in all though, I had a good night.

Welcome Everyone!

I just started this blog today and I am planning to update it 5 or 6 times a week, if not every day. My plan is to include pictures and letters for all of my family and friends to keep track of me. That way you all can see what I'm up to and what I've been doing with myself while I'm over here. Sort of an online journal, but with pictures. Hope you all enjoy. Please look around and let me know if there is anything you would like me to add. I'll be sure to put up whatever you like. Until next time, Bye bye!

GETTING STARTED

To see what I have written, simply click any of the THEMES above. Currently I only have My Wife and Korea. Take a look around and let me know what you think.

Check back often

I am updating this site by adding old dates, so even if the latest Journal entry hasn't changed, be sure to scroll down the page. I have added a lot more entries from previous months.

A little about my Wife

me and sherry

We were married on June 1, 2001 at O'Neill Chapel in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Sherry grew up in a small town called Kimball in rural South Dakota. She joined the Army in 2000 and had the job of a Chaplain Assistant. Lucky for me, I was given the job of showing her around the post and helping her get settled in. I like to say I got "first dibs." Well we hit it off immediately, fell in love, and got married. IN September of 2004, I was relocated by the US Army to work in South Korea. Since then we have been separated.

Sherry was able to come visit however for Christmas on a spur of the moment plan. She stayed for a month and was able to enjoy the culture of Korea and see all the tourist attractions and do some traveling.

Sherry stayed with me in Korea for a month and then had to go back to the states. She found a new job at a local bank, and is now the bank teller. It gives her something to occupy her time and a little spending money to enjoy her hobbies. Sherry is always looking for some new hobby. Currently she is enrolled in weekly aerobics classes at a local gym. She also reads a lot, chats with her husband, and attends all the wrestling shows she can.

Here is the sleepy head on Christmas morning. I really don't think she was too happy with me waking her up.

This is one of the orphans from the Geon Orphanage. Sherry went with us when we took a group of soldiers to the orphanage for Christmas. We delivered clothes and toys to all the kids. Jung dressed up like Santa Claus and handed toys to all of the orphans. The toys were purchased by the soldiers. It really made the children happy.

Here is Sherry holding one of the babies from the orphanage. Tjis orphanage does not allow poeple to adopt the children. They are raised by the people who work there until they are of age and can move out. Some choose to return to work themselves as a caretaker for the orphans. It really is a great oportunity to help them out.

This was taken at a restaurant in Itaewon. As you can see the seats to eat are pretty comfortable. It's about the only place that I have found that has a buffett.

tn_DSC00095.JPG

Here I am on New Years Eve. Is that not a huge beer or what? That is a normal size 12 oz bottle in my other hand. I can barely hold the thing up it was so heavy.

tn_DSC00107.JPG

This was taken at Seoul tower. Sherry and I went there for dinner one night. At the top of the tower is a restaurant that overlooks the whole city of Seoul. It rotates too, so you can sit and eat your dinner and get to see the entire city.

A picture from inside the tower. This was what the view looked like. All the lights make it really pretty to watch at night.

This is from January 8th, 2005. We are on our way to go skiing at one of the resorts.

Sherry and our good friend Hightower. We met him in Osan and went to some bar called the Whiskey a go-go. It's one of the few places that cater to US Soldiers, so they play american rock music, and have pool tables, darts, etc. It's a fun place to hang out at.

They even let you write on the walls here. He drew all sorts of stuff and wrote everywhere. Here is one example.

This was taken on January 13, 2005. It was Sherry's last day in korea. We were on the bus heading forthe airport and took this picture.

Our last picture together in Korea. It was great to have Sherry come visit for a month. It was a nice vacation.
