Gyeonggi Half Marathon

I got up this morning at 5:30 and threw my stuff together for the race today. SSG Adams gave us a ride to the gate and we got on a bus and drove up to the stadium. They had three races today: a 5k, 10k, and half marathon. I picked the half of course. It was so hot too. The race didn't start until 8:00 A.M., but by then it was already 75 degrees.

SSG Woody came with us on this race today. He never runs far distances, but he decided to run the half with us today. He actually did better than I did. He's a naturally gifted runner though anyway.

This was also Maxwell's first half marathon. He was strugglign a little with the 7 miles we did last week, so I knew this run was going to hurt him pretty good. He did well though too. He covered his nipples with band-aids at the beggining of the race, but they fell of at the beginning and by the the time the race was over his shirt was covered in blood because his nipples had been rubbed raw and had started to bleed.

The race was up near the South/ North Korean border. I took this picture from the bus. There are Korean soldiers in the hut and barb wire fenceline runs the entire length of the river. You know your close to North Korea when you start seeing that.

Near the start/ finish line at the stadium was this church with an enormous stemple. I just had to take a picture of it.

Well 13.1 miles and 1 hour: 39 minutes: 39 seconds later I crossed the finish line and got my medal. It was a fun run, even though it was sooooo hot. They handed out sponges soaked it water along the route to squeeze and help keep us cool as well as water tables every few miles. Afterwards they had massage tables set up for the runnrs to go get a massage. I never go to them though becaus ethe Koreans are rough. They like to squeeze hard and the massages always hurt. One guy was giving out what looked like milk to everyone. That was the last thing I wanted to drink after running, but he insisted. I took a sip of it and it was actually fermented rice. I don't know why the guy thought that liquer would make me feel bertter after running, but it was horrible.

After I got back I showered and Scott invited Maxwell and I over for dinner. He cooked up some pot roast and mashed potatoes, and we all sat around and played baseball on his playstation. Sherry sent me a message too but I didn't get it until after I got back. Sorry I missed you babe!
